Day One: It's Not About Me-

"But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator."  Colossians 3:8-10

Being human we are not only born of God but also born with an ego.  This ego or self-centeredness can be hard to balance in one's life.  It is the thing that keeps us away from our true hearts.  It is the thing which pulls us from our purpose of life.  It can encourage the worst demons and battles to arise in our lives.  What most of us have yet to learn and some of us currently learning-is we were not put on this earth for us.  We were built for a purpose far greater than our ego.  It is a purpose we may never know.  It is an unimaginable or assuming purpose.  There are no theories or philosophies which can unlock the mystery of who we are supposed to be for Him.
The only key made available to us is through Him.  He is the only one who has our user's manual.  I know how hard it can be to not go with the societal norm.  How our society reinforces a self-centered life through busyness, promises of more money, more fame, and a side seat in the fast lane.  There are self-help books and conferences, advertisements and television constantly at our back doors hounding us with false promises of our purpose.  So, how do you deflect this overwhelming message?
Unfortunately, I do not have a general answer.  I know it is going to take a lot of faith and hope on my part.  It is going to take time out of the hustle and bustle of this world to talk with God-to allow him to walk with each one of us.  It is going to be about giving Him our fears, worries, anxieties, etc. and allowing him to move through us without hesitation.  I know this takes time and complete release of ego/self.

"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.  And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.  Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.  Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.  Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone."  Colossians 4:2-6
