Introducing . . .

My supplement stack!  Training requires more than just going to the gym.  It requires supplements, vitamins, nutrition, and a strong mental focus.  Of course not everyone is in the gym to compete.  There are different levels of intensity just depending on your goals.  Regardless, taking some supplements and having the right tools will aide in your fitness journey no matter what level you are at. Protein Protein is an essential macronutrient that helps build muscle, repair tissue, and make enzymes and hormones. Using protein powder may also aid weight loss and help people tone their muscles.  There are creative ways to use protein powder - shakes, pancakes, muffins, and even desserts!   I really love the taste and consistency of Nutrex IsoFit .  This whey isolate tastes amazing, easy to mix, and also has EAA + BCAA for recovery.  Those looking for a plant-based protein, try Nutrex Plant Protein .  I also use Humapro Tabs - gr...

DRINK ME

Image
Two years ago, I was introduced to Bolero and never looked back.   A brilliantly low calorie way of boosting your water intake,  Bolero can be mixed with tap, soda, or sparkling water to make  a refreshing fruit drink that’s bursting with vitamin C, but totally  sugar-free.  It is also a great add-in for baking. I use these through out my competition prep to keep me hydrated and bake what otherwise would be bland, tasteless food.  It is also my go to re-hydrate post show.  I keep a couple 'sticks' in my purse at all times. Increase your H 2 O intake with a burst of Bolero,  great-tasting fruit flavors from the experts in hydration.   Available in family size and on-the-go sachets, they’re convenient to carry, easy to mix  and utterly delicious! Whether you’re working out, or just out and about, Bolero makes it  easy to stay hydrated and refreshed.    SHOP NOW  and t ake 10% off every order by simply using HY...

Stop To Smell The Roses [And Eat Them Too]

Image
Most people have no idea that many things associated with smell also make great flavors.  More and more edible flowers are popping up in culinary creations.  Lavender Ice Creams.  Marigold Lollipops.   Hibiscus Frostings.   These fragrant and edible delights go beyond the sense of smell and can add a pop of yum to your palette.  I use a variety of Bolero flavors as well as steeped dried buds one can usually get at any natural or whole foods grocery store. Jet Set: Competitor Style

Image
While it is nice to stay local and cut down on expenses to compete.  Once you get to a point whether to do nationals or even pro shows; it is likely you will be jet set.  Here are a few things to help pack your bags and ensure a stress-free journey. What's food got to do with it? It surprises me how many competitors show up with no meals.  Seems almost crazy yet it happens.  Packing meals is easier than before with Meal Management bags like 6 Pack Bags .  If you insist on not taking meals, have them delivered to your hotel from a Meal Prep Company or locate your nearest grocery store for any odds and ends you may need. Pre-measure your meals a day or two before you leave. Press all the air out of the bags. Pack extra meals for post show or any other bulk items. Three ounce liquid rule applies to any condiments, PB, almond butters, honey, etc. you may want to take.  The individual packets a perfect for your carry on. Your ice pack must be 100% f...

Top Tips to Hit the National Stage

Image
Whether this is your first national show or fifth, here are my top tips to hit the national stage.  After competing for years, these are the things I see most often being forgotten or some competitor throwing a fit over. photo BY JM Manion for NPC News Online Budget Competing is not cheap.  Let me say that again- COMPETING IS NOT CHEAP!  Entry fees, hotel, flight, spray tan, suit, make-up, food, supplements . . . the list goes on. By the time you get your 15 seconds of glory, you will have likely spent thousands to get there.  I would not suggest cutting corners in this sport, but here are some tips to help save some money. ·         Stay at the host hotel: When a promoter releases the host hotel, they usually have a competitor rate.  Saving on average $30 per night.  Most of these rooms have a 24-hour before arrival cancellation policy and a credit card will hold the room (but not be charged until your arrival...
