Red Is In The Air

Image
If the mushy, gushy commercials and store aisles full of treats and flowers are not enough, I am here to remind you; It is Valentine's Day!  Maybe it is a day you dread.  Maybe it is one of your favorite holidays.  Regardless of how you view the day, it is a day that can be used for all types of love.  One that is overlooked a lot is self love. Self love is required regardless of whether your heart belongs to someone or you are solo.  It allows us connect or even reconnect with ourselves on a very personal note.  Allowing this to happen can open new doors, insight, and promote that gravitational draw of more love into our environment.  Today is a good reminder that you are important and deserve all the love in the world. Here are some great ways to show some self-love on this Hallmark day: Mani-Pedi time Massage Go to the gym Take a nap Take a class whether Yoga or Art do something that interests you Do something off your Bucket List Bu...

SELFish SABOTAGE

Image
Self sabotage very rarely hurts just self.  Like a bomb, it has a radius.  Usually causing the ones closest to us to be defenseless against a shock wave of guilt, disappointment, hurt, humiliation, etc.  Self Sabotage is a projectile that ultimately will destroy the best things for us.  It takes away the ability to grow and thrive in so many instances.  It also takes away a lot of choices not just from us but from others.  This form of control keeps our wounds open.  It withholds forgiveness, hope, love, affection, etc.  It clouds our judgement and our true selves.   Check yourself  often .  Check your heart.   Check your motives.  Check your attitude.

Finding Neverland

The story of Peter Pan is not far off from where most adults end up.  The once lost boys'/girls' eventually find themselves leaving their favorite past-time and fading into a world of busyness-into piracy.  They then can get so caught up, they swindle, pilage, and burn some of the most important parts of their human souls.  Love, faith, God, and hope are drowned in a sea of money, work, temptations, and societal norms.  I know there are times I look in the mirror and see a pirate.  The only thing that keeps me from completely transforming is remembering those times when I most free and listening to God.  When there were no responsibilities and I could let my imagination run wild. Growing up in a small cow town most of my life left little room for my father to worry.  Every one knew every one and there was little temptation to get even the most disobedient child into much trouble.  I spent most of my summer days climbing trees, riding bikes, pla...

Groan Inwardly Wait Eagerly

Image
The whole life of the good Christian," said Augustine, "is a holy longing." Sadly, many of us have been led to feel that somehow we ought to want less, not more. We have this sense that we should atone for our longings, apologize that we feel such deep desire. Shouldn't we be more content? Perhaps, but contentment is never wanting less ; that's the easy way out. Anybody can look holy if she's killed her heart; the real test is to have your heart burning within you and have the patience to enjoy what there is now to enjoy, while waiting with eager anticipation for the feast to come. In Paul's words, we "groan inwardly as we wait eagerly" (Rom. 8:23). Contentment can only happen as we increase desire, let it run itself out toward its fulfillment, and carry us along with it. And so George Herbert prayed, Immortal Heat, O let thy greater flame Attract the lesser to it: let those fires, Which shall consume the world, first make it tame; And kind...
