Day 30: Shaped For Serving God
"There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. " 1 Corinthians 12:4-6
Spiritual Gifts
Heart
Abilities
Personality
Experience
Each of us is given gifts by God. None of us receive them all and each of us has a unique set of them-no two codes alike. God wanted us to rely on others' and that is why we are all so unique in our spiritual gifts. Be thankful for the gifts you do have and be blessed when some one enters your life with a gift you have not received. Learn to lean on them so to let them use their gift and vice versa.
Our heart is the center of our motivation. It is our desires, interest, ambitions, and dreams. "Your heart determines why you say the things you do, why you feel the way you do, and why you act the way you do. " (Warren: The Purpose Drive Life, pg.153) When you are serving the Lord it should be something your heart is into. There should be enthusiasm in our serving and should stay within our abilities. This is not to say trying something new is negative. It just means we should have realistic expecations of our abilities. If you have a fear of heights, taking a youth ministry rock climbing probably is not your thing.
Each of us is shaped uniquely to serve God and others' in many different ways. When we can come together with otehrs' who serve in ways we cannot is when community can grow stronger in His name and word. He delights when all the pieces can come together in a unified fellowship. Hone in on your spiritual gifts. Test yourself to see what they may or may not be. Then, make a list of things that set your heart a fire. What passions do you have? Remember to look at your abilities, experiences, and personality to help you decide how you can passionately serve others and God.
"Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body." 1 Corinthians 12:15-20
