Weekday Warrior

If you’re like most 9 to 5ers, you become glued to your desk chair. The zoned out stare into your screen, missing lunch, ‘gotta get this done today’ brain drain. To pull you away for a moment and get the blood flowing again, here are a few tips to help keep you active at work.

1) Pre-Work Out

Knowing that you are likely to be stuck to your chair most of the day, make it a priority to get active before work. Whether it’s walking the dog, yoga, weight training or a run around the neighborhood, jump start your metabolism and get your body moving before you get to the office. You’ll be amazed how much it wakes you up and helps you focus throughout the day!

2) Be A Kit-Kat

Give yourself a break and get creative doing it. Many companies our now offering fit programs and in-house gyms -use them! Hire a Personal Trainer to come to you for a 30 minute Quickie. Bring sneakers, resistance bands, and/or a yoga mat to work. Chances are if they don’t have them in-house, there is a place nearby. Or, simply walk around the office the long way to your next meeting. A few minutes every day [or part of your munch break] will not only keep you active, but make you more alert. [Be sure to invite your co-workers.]

3) Stretch It Out

If you are sucked into that chair with no chance of separation, simple stretches can help keep you mobile, too. Check these out!

4) Take the Stairs or Grab the Mail

Take the stairs in lieu of the elevator to your next meeting and feel that extra burn. Offer to take the mail out to the mailbox, make a quick coffee run, or even run an office errand to get the blood flowing.

5) Musical Chairs

Just because you sit all day, doesn’t mean you cannot switch it up. Sometimes switching your position is all that is needed to maintain the long hours in the office. Use a yoga ball instead of a desk chair, switch chairs, purchase an elevated desk, choose to stand whenever mulling over papers, large bean bag.

There are many ways to incorporate activity and movement into your day. Just a few minutes every day keeps you more alert, energized, healthy, active, and ready to take for whatever work throws at you for the day. Start moving around today!
