The Waiting Game
I have a tendency to be impatient, knee-jerk, and have the ability to go from 0-60 in 3.2 seconds [and I am not talking about in a car]. Recently a situation raised a lot of questions within myself. How can I be fine and then be at Def Con 1 within only a few minutes? The answer is fear!
We all have our defense mechanisms when it comes to being afraid. Some of us run, some of us fight, some of sweat profusely, some of us freeze, and some of us get angry. We all have our way(s) of coping with the unknown and often we project it when there is NO need to [even more so at the people we care about the most]. Most conversations and/or situations are more like little learning tasks or mirrors to help us see ourselves and cope in a more healthy way. They are not ALL emergencies and most of the time if we just wait; it will work itself our for the better. Usually better than we had hoped for.
"If the time is not right, the way is not clear, the answer or decision no consistent, wait."
Feeling a sense of urgency is a normal reaction. Many times feeling we need to do something, ANYTHING, to grasp what is going on. To feel some sense of control! Sometimes taking action is not in our best interest. Doing something before it is time to do so can ultimately harm us more than help us. It leaves us having to go back and redo over and over again until we learn to just be. To be guided by God and not self. To let things unfold as they should be.
Waiting is not easy for all of us and definitely is not fun. But waiting is often necessary to get what we want and grow. In growing we allow the answer to come when it is supposed to. If today's action is to wait, then do so as calmly and kindly as possible. Do not be afraid to take yourself out of a situation for a short time to find patience and understanding. Know that this positive and forceful act of waiting is a great lesson to learn in timing; and if it gets hard in the waiting game, pray for God's help in letting go of the fear, urgency, and panic. Let it be right. Not right now!
